Joining the Trail Maple Leaf Band is easy. New members are always welcome. Our season runs from September until the end of June. The best time to join is just after the summer or winter breaks. Practices are usually weekly, on Mondays from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. There are about a dozen concerts and parades annually; these are held on weekends or evenings, often outdoors in May and June.
The rehearsal location is the McIntyre Room in the far left corner of the Concession Stand floor of the Memorial Arena, downtown Trail. To join, contact the Bandmaster, Joe Fuoco, directly by visiting the McIntyre Room before rehearsal or by leaving a message at 250-364-2803, or indirectly by speaking with any member of the band.
Membership is open to anyone interested in playing concert band and marching band types of music with a skill level usually achieved in high school. The Bandmaster will assess the applicant’s skill and offer an invitation to sit in. There are no formal auditions. If you are a beginner, there is a separate junior band associated with the Trail Maple Leaf Band. If your skills are just “rusty” or you need to find an instrument there can often be some help for that. Members usually play concert band instruments such as trumpets and clarinets but occasionally there might be a cello or a string bass. Members provide their own standard instruments but the band can offer percussion and some specialized instruments, according to the requirements of the band. There are currently (2014) no membership fees, but members are expected to commit to regular attendance, volunteer for jobs to help operate the band, and if possible donate an optional amount to help with Band finances.
